- Which Fraction Is Bigger?Compare fractions with the same denominator and use the > and < symbols.When two fractions have the same bottom number, the pieces are the same size, so the one with the bigger top number is bigger. We write 'bigger' as > and 'smaller' as <, with the open side facing the larger amount.
- Same Top, Different BottomCompare unit fractions with the same numerator by reasoning about part size.When the top numbers match, the bottom number decides: more equal parts means smaller pieces. So 1/2 is bigger than 1/4, and 1/3 is bigger than 1/6. Comparing to one half is a helpful checkpoint.
- Compare and OrderOrder fractions on a number line and choose the correct comparison symbol.Placing fractions on a number line makes ordering clear — the further right, the bigger. Using the rules for same bottoms or same tops, you can compare any pair and pick > or < to make a true statement.
