  1. Splitting Into a ThousandUnderstand a thousandth as 1/1000 and place it in the decimal place-value system.Each place after the decimal point is ten times smaller than the one before: tenths, hundredths, then thousandths. One thousandth is written 0.001, and ten thousandths make one hundredth.
  2. Reading ThousandthsRead and name decimals that reach the thousandths place.To read a decimal, say the digits and name the smallest place you reach. 0.007 is seven thousandths and 0.025 is twenty-five thousandths. The same digit means different amounts in different places.
  3. Comparing ThousandthsCompare and order decimals to the thousandths place.Compare decimals by lining up the points and checking digits from left to right. Writing extra zeros (0.05 as 0.050) makes it easier to see that 0.052 is more and 0.048 is less. This lets you order thousandths accurately.
