- A Noisy, Crowded PlaceUnderstand that rainforests hold enormous variety, which is why scientists sort life into groups.Tropical rainforests cover only about 6% of Earth's land yet are home to more than half of the world's plant and animal species. That crowd of variety is exactly why grouping — classification — is useful.
