What you’ll learn

  1. Explain why we tell time, name the clock hands, and read hours and minutes on an analog clock.Clocks split the day into 24 hours so everyone shares the same time. The short hand shows hours and the long hand shows minutes. 'O'clock' is when the minute hand points to 12, and there are 60 minutes in an hour, counted by fives.
  2. Read half-past and quarter times, use digital clocks, understand AM and PM, and plan with time.Half past is 30 minutes and quarter past or to marks 15 minutes. Digital clocks show hours and minutes with a colon. AM is morning and PM is afternoon and evening, and telling time helps you make and follow a daily schedule.
