What you’ll learn

  1. Above and BelowUse the position words 'above' and 'below' to describe where things are.Position words tell us where things are. Above means higher up, over something, like a bird above a tree. Below means lower down, under something, like a fish below a boat. Pointing up for above and down for below helps you remember.
  2. Next To and BetweenUse the position words 'next to' and 'between' to describe where things are.Next to means right beside something, side by side, like a cup next to a plate. Between means in the middle, with something on each side, like jam between two slices of bread. Between always needs two things hugging the middle.
  3. Behind and In FrontUse the position words 'behind' and 'in front of' to describe where things are.Behind means at the back, out of sight, like a cat hiding behind a couch. In front means at the front, where you can see it, like a teacher in front of the class. Together with above, below, next to, and between, these words describe exactly where anything is.
