What you’ll learn
- Writing a FractionWrite simple fractions of amounts, like 1/2 of 10 = 5.A fraction has a top number (the parts you have) and a bottom number (the equal parts in all). To find a fraction of an amount, share into equal groups: 1/2 of 10 = 5, and 1/4 of 8 = 2.
- A Surprising MatchRecognise that 2/4 and 1/2 are equal amounts.Shade two of four equal parts and you cover half the whole — so 2/4 is the same amount as 1/2. Different fractions can name the same amount; these are equivalent fractions.
