In 1990, Voyager 1 turned back to photograph Earth as a nearly invisible point Sagan called the Pale Blue Dot, part of a family portrait of the solar system seen from outside before the cameras were switched off.

Into Interstellar SpaceUnderstand the heliopause, the two documented crossings, and the probes' ongoing and eternal journey.The heliopause marks where the solar wind gives way to interstellar space. Voyager 1 crossed it in August 2012 and Voyager 2 in November 2018, on separate paths, giving two direct samples of the boundary. Both probes still transmit faintly via the Deep Space Network as their nuclear power fades. Even after they fall silent, they will drift among the stars for billions of years, carrying their Golden Records.
