😴 Why does a nap sometimes fix everything?
Twenty-four people were sleep-restricted, then napped at 3 pm for exactly 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes. Ten minutes won — improving every measure at once, some of it still there 155 minutes later — while thirty minutes charged an impairment first. And in a driving simulator, taking just a break did nothing at all.

The relief is large because fatigue was amplifying every demand. But the measured effects are modest, mostly about alertness, and mostly gone within a few hours — which is why a nap is a countermeasure and not a substitute for the night.
