📏 Things We Can Measure
How long? How heavy? How long does it take? Meet the friendly world of measuring — length, weight, and time — with lots of things to look at and sort.
What you’ll learn
- How Long?Understand length using the words long and short, and sort objects by length. We can measure how long something is. A snake is long; a worm is short. A ruler helps us measure length. Long things stretch out far, like a train or a scarf, while short things do not, like a crayon or a bug.
- How Heavy?Understand weight using heavy and light, and know that a balance scale shows which is heavier.Weight is how heavy something is. A rock is heavy and hard to lift; a feather is light and can float. On a balance scale, the heavier side goes down and the lighter side goes up, which helps us compare weights.
- How Long Does It Take?Understand time as how long something takes, and order activities from quickest to longest.Time tells us how long something takes, and a clock helps us measure it. Some things are quick, like a blink; others take a long time, like sleeping all night. Ordering activities from quickest to longest builds a first sense of time.
