To photograph a waterfall as silky, flowing mist, what do you do with the shutter?
A slow shutter keeps the window open long enough for moving water to record as a smooth blur. Because it also blurs camera shake, you need a tripod or steady surface.
Why do handheld photos below about 1/60 second often come out blurry?
A slow shutter records everything that moves during the exposure — including the small movements of your hands. Below roughly 1/60s, that shake blurs the image, so long exposures need a tripod.
