Pushes and PullsUnderstand that a force is a push or a pull that can make things move or stop.A force is a push or a pull. Forces can make things speed up, slow down, stop or change direction. They are busy all around us, and many forces have their own special names.
Forces Have NamesName gravity, friction and magnetism and say what each one does.Many forces have special names. Gravity pulls everything down toward the ground. Friction slows things that rub together and helps us grip. Magnetism is a magnet's pull on some metals.
Spotting ForcesMatch everyday events to the named force that caused them.Once you know their names, you can spot forces everywhere. A falling apple is gravity, a slowing sledge is friction, and a magnet lifting a nail is magnetism. Every one is still a push or a pull.
