What did Snow's map place side by side?
The map connected the locations of deaths with the locations of water sources, so a reader could test a pathway instead of only naming a sick district.
Why was the Poland Street workhouse useful as an exception?
Snow counted five cholera deaths among 535 inmates. The workhouse had its own well and Grand Junction water, so a simple distance-to-the-outbreak story did not fit.

The lasting lesson is a method and a debate, not a legend in which one handle instantly rewrote medicine.
