EIA: electricity is secondary because it is made from primary sources. The electricity itself is neither renewable nor nonrenewable; the source that produced it is.

61.5 quads rejected out of 93.6 is about 66 percent. Energy services were 32.1 quads. The rejected box is conversion heat, not a rounding error.

Why can petrol wait in a tank when a watt cannot wait in the wires?
Oil, gas, and coal sit in tanks, pipelines, caverns, and piles. On the grid, generation must match load every second. North American systems hold about 60 Hz; below that, demand is ahead. Storage exists but returns less than it takes, so most watt-hours are made as you use them.
