What you’ll learn

  1. See the reconciliation gapExplain why an importer flags a defined issue for later finalization.Reconciliation links an early entry declaration to a later calculation for a permitted unresolved issue.
  2. Choose the permitted issueDistinguish issue-specific reconciliation from a general entry rewrite. The entry type and program rules determine which uncertainty can be flagged and later settled.
  3. Build the control registerDesign a register that tracks underlying entries, evidence, owners, and due dates.A controlled population and evidence trail keep later filing obligations visible.
  4. File the reconciliation entryDescribe the ACE filing components and evidence of acceptance. The reconciliation entry, associations, final data, response, and payment records must describe one population.
  5. Settle and closeReconcile liquidation results and use differences to improve future import controls.Closure matches the customs result to the calculation and turns recurring differences into preventive action.

Questions this course answers

What is the purpose of a customs reconciliation?

Reconciliation lets an importer later finalize a permitted issue while the rest of the entry proceeds under its own rules.

Put the reconciliation control sequence in order.

The importer must define the obligation, support the final result, file it, then close and improve the process.

Why is an emailed spreadsheet not enough to prove a reconciliation was filed?

A spreadsheet may support the calculation, but it does not prove that the required electronic filing reached CBP, passed validation, and covered the intended underlying entries.

What should happen after a reconciliation is processed?

Closure requires reconciling the final customs result to the filed population and preserving the outcome.
