What you’ll learn

  1. Wood and MetalMeet wood and metal and learn what they are like.Everything is made from a material. Wood comes from trees and is hard and strong, used for chairs, tables, and pencils. Metal is hard, strong, and often shiny, used for spoons, keys, and cans. We can sort things by whether they are wood or metal.
  2. Plastic and GlassMeet plastic and glass and learn what makes each one special.Plastic is light and comes in bright colours; it can be hard or bendy, and many toys are made of it. Glass is smooth, hard, and see-through, so we can look through a window or bottle, but it can break, so we hold it gently.
  3. Fabric and SortingMeet fabric and practise matching everyday things to their materials.Fabric is soft and cosy, and our clothes are made from it, like a woolly jumper or a cotton shirt. Now we know five everyday materials: wood, metal, plastic, glass, and fabric. We can match everyday things to the material they are made of.
