Pressure is the weight of the water above, and in the deep sea thousands of metres of water push in with tremendous force.

How do many soft-bodied deep-sea animals survive the crushing pressure?

Soft, flexible bodies with no air pockets are not crushed, because there are no air spaces for the pressure to squeeze.

How does the anglerfish attract prey in the dark?

The anglerfish dangles a glowing lure, lit by living bacteria, and curious prey drift toward the light and get snapped up.

Why does the giant squid have such enormous eyes?

The giant squid's dinner-plate-sized eyes gather the faintest light in the deep, helping it sense predators and prey.
