What you’ll learn
- Coins We UseRecognise common coins and know that 100 pennies make £1.Each coin has its own value, from 1p up to 50p. The bigger the number, the more the coin is worth, and 100 pennies together make exactly one pound (£1).
- Counting CoinsAdd coins to find a total and decide if an amount is enough to buy something. To count money, add the coins together, starting with the biggest. Comparing your total to a price tells you whether you have enough to buy the item.
- Making Change by Counting UpFind change by counting up from the price to the amount paid.Change is the extra money you get back when you pay more than the price. Instead of taking away, count up from the price to what you paid — the size of that hop is the change.
- Money PracticeCombine counting coins and counting up to solve everyday money problems.Putting it together: name your coins, add them into a total, and count up to find change. These are exactly the money skills used in real shops every day.
