🌊 All About Oceans
The ocean is the biggest, bluest place on Earth. Dive in to learn why it is salty, where the waves come from, and who lives in the big blue.
What you’ll learn
- The Big Blue OceanUnderstand that the ocean is a huge body of salty water covering most of the Earth, and name the five oceans. The ocean is a huge area of deep, salty water that covers more of the Earth than all the land. Our planet has five oceans: the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, and Arctic. The Pacific is the biggest of them all.
- Salty Water and WavesLearn that the sea is salty from land and rivers, that wind makes waves, and that tides make the sea rise and fall.Ocean water is salty because rain washes tiny bits of salt from the land into rivers that carry it to the sea. Waves are made by the wind blowing across the water. Twice a day the tide makes the sea rise high and fall low, and the ocean gets deeper the further out you go.
- Ocean LifeRecognise the ocean as home to many animals, sort ocean animals from land animals, and learn to protect the sea.The ocean is the largest home for living things, with fish, whales, dolphins, turtles, crabs, and octopuses, plus creatures still to be discovered. Some animals live in the sea and others on land. We can protect the ocean by keeping beaches clean and never leaving rubbish behind.
