DREAMS AND MOLES.

INTRODUCTION.

Dreams, though some, very ignorant in such rare mysteries, have slighted them, are, by the Sages and Wise Men of all ages, considered very significant; and that the soul, when the body reposes, being disencumbered from gross and weighty cares for the flesh, by this unknown mysterious way confabulates or converses with Spirits of Angels, who bring to its knowledge future events, very strange and wonderful; as in scripture we find it in Pharaoh’s, Nebuchadnezzar’s, and other dreams, that exactly came to pass, according to their interpretations. But not to prolong the matter, I proceed, by the rules of art, to give the interpretation of Dreams.

DREAMS INTERPRETED.

To dream one is flying in the air, promises hasty news.

To dream one swims with pleasure in tossing water, denotes overcoming some difficult matter you have in hand.

To dream you hear birds sing melodiously, betokens joy to people in health; and to the sick, recovery.

To dream one presents you with a gold ring, and puts it on your finger, or ties on your garter on your right leg, it foreshews speedy marriage to either party.

To dream you are dancing in a jolly company, signifies much joy and mirth in the course of the following day.

To dream some furious beast pursues you, and you cannot avoid it, betokens your enemies will prevail against you.

To dream you are stung or bitten by serpents or insects, denotes mischief to come from malicious and private enemies.

To dream you meet a lion, who fawns on you, denotes the favour of great ones.

To dream you meet a black coffin, with mourners, denotes the death of a friend.

Part 2

To dream that a dove is on your hand, or in your view, means constancy.

To dream that one fights and overcomes, denotes success in what you are contending for, or escaping dangers.

To dream you are washing your hands, and the dirt comes clean off, signifies you shall perform some great enterprize.

To dream your eyes or teeth fall out, denotes sickness or death of children, or some intimate friend or relation.

To dream one’s shoes fall off, or are old and torn, denotes poverty and distress.

To dream a horse runs away with you, denotes unexpected business, not pleasant.

To dream a gold ring breaks, and falls from your finger, denotes the loss of a lover, or some dear friend.

To dream you are sailing on a calm sea, denotes a peaceable life; but suddenly overtaken in a storm, trouble and affliction.

To dream of courting a beautiful woman, betokens crosses and vexation.

To dream you put on very fine clothes, denotes to both sexes high preferment.

To dream you hunt a hare, but cannot take her, denotes the loss of some matter you are in earnest pursuit of.

To dream your lover is absent, when he is actually at home, means he will neglect you; but if he is really absent, it means that he is true.

To dream you endeavour to fly, and cannot, betokens imprisonment, or some restraint of what you are in pursuit of.

A virgin dreaming she is putting on a new garment, denotes an alteration of her condition by marriage or otherwise.

To dream you see a piece of paper in flames, denotes the party will be happy in a marriage state in friends and affection.

To dream one receives a letter, denotes love and constancy, or that the party shall have satisfaction in what he desires.

To dream one puts on new white gloves denotes the marriage of friends; but black ones, their death, or removal to a distance.

For a woman to dream she is with child, denotes sorrow and hard labour; but to dream she is delivered, the contrary.

To dream you see a withered tree sprouting out, denotes children in old age.

To dream you are cast away in a shipwreck, denotes losses in goods and estate.

To dream of ribbons and gay plumes of feathers, denotes increase of fortune.

To dream of your grave or tomb, promises you children, but loss of memory.

To dream that your lover is driving a pig, denotes that he is of a headstrong disposition, and likely to prove a drunkard.

To dream you are among sheep, means repose from trouble. To dream you meet a flock is lucky.

To dream you dance aloft in some high place, threatens danger, or that the party will be in danger of an untimely end.

To dream one wears a garland promises the party honour, repute, and preferment.

To dream your living friends are dead, is a sign they are in health.

To dream one is in danger of being killed, denotes deliverance from danger.

Part 3

To dream you embrace, without power to speak, denotes the party to fall in love, but shall not obtain the person desired.

To dream of singing and music, denotes you shall soon hear of the marriage of some very near friend or relation.

To dream you hear magpies chatter, denotes brawling and contention.

For a barren woman to dream she embraces one of her own sex, denotes that in time she shall have children, but to a fruitful woman it denotes very great pain and sorrow in child bearing.

For lovers to dream they fall out and quarrel, signifies constancy and affection.

To dream you see a little spring increase to a river or lake, signifies an increase of riches and great preferment in the world.

To dream that you are climbing mountains or rocks, means that your love is vain or not returned.

To dream of a house on fire means anger.

To dream of young birds, signifies that the person will soon get news of child-birth.

To dream one receives a letter, denotes good success in love, or the speedy arrival of absent friends.

To dream of storms and a troubled sky, denotes that the person will get anger.

To dream of the chattering of swallows, denotes sickness or other infirmities.

For a maid to dream that she kisses her sweetheart, is a sign of true love and affection, and that they will soon be joined in marriage.

To see great feasts, and partake of them, signifies plenty; but if you are debarred from eating them, want and poverty.

To dream you catch great store of fish, denotes you will attain to great riches.

To dream of dead relations, promises you will soon see some friend.

To dream you receive money is lucky; but to dream of finding money, denotes that you will meet with a very great disappointment.

For a maid to write the numeral figures in her own name, and lay them under her pillow, on the first Friday in the month, if she dreams she sees any person writting or casting up accounts, she may expect to have sudden overtures of marriage, and a happy life.

To dream of a great fire, signifies sickness, or discontent with the person’s lot.

To dream the sun shines bright in your house, foretells very great prosperity.

To dream you see an egg hang by a string at your bed head, signifies finding great store of hidden treasure.

To dream of shaking hands, signifies to both sexes, courtship and love.

To dream of young birds, doth signify to woman, child-birth.

To dream you are bit by a serpent, signifies some danger will befal you by secret and subtile enemies.

To dream you fly in the air, signifies a speedy journey, or some hasty news.

To dream that you fight and overcome, signifies you will get the better in law suits, or other controversies.

To dream a lion fawns upon you, denotes the favour of great persons.

To dream of black coffins and mourners, denotes the death of some loving friend or relation.

Part 4

To dream you see a friend dead, denotes the party to be in good health.

To dream of bees denotes active friends, or if they sting, busy enemies, or the buzzing of evil reports.
