The dwarf mallow (<spn>M. rotundifolia</spn>) is a common weed, and its flattened, dick-shaped fruits are called <i>cheeses</i> by children. Tree mallow (<spn>M. Mauritiana</spn> and <spn>Lavatera arborea</spn>), musk mallow (<spn>M. moschata</spn>), rose mallow or hollyhock, and curled mallow (<spn>M. crispa</spn>), are less commonly seen.</note>
